Mission Statement

Our purpose is to enhance and encourage the cultural education of the public through the exhibition and promotion of the work of area artists. In addition, the Council will continue to strive to develop interactive educational programs and workshops for students of all ages and the community at large in order to further promote the visual arts.

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts is the sponsor of the Annual Regional Juried Art Exhibition and also sponsors History Through Art Exhibitions.

This will be the 17th year for the annual exhibition; and with each passing year, it has grown to be accepted as the most outstanding, prestigious art exhibit of its kind in southwestern Pennsylvania. When the exhibition was founded eleven years ago by the Greensburg Area Cultural Council, the intent was to provide area artists with the opportunity to exhibit their work. Our area is comprised of nineteen (19) counties in southwestern Pennsylvania. The past years were successful in that the participation by the artists and the public has continued to grow. However, each year our primary problem was locating a facility within our area which was suitable to host the exhibition. We were honored to have the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Ligonier extend an invitation to host the eighth and ninth exhibitions at their outstanding, nationally-recognized facility.
