JUROR: Becky Blosser holds a BFA from Millersville University, Lancaster PA and an MFA in Visual Arts from Mason Gross School of Art, Rutgers University. She is currently chair of the Fine Art Department, Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, Lancaster PA. Through process and printmaking, she creates forms that consider supportive and opposing forces in relation to both built and natural elements. Ms. Blosser exhibits her work on both a regional and national level. Her work is included in such collections as the Zuckerman Museum of Art in Kennesaw GA, and the Janet Turner Print Museum in Chico CA.. See her work: www.beckyblosser.com
ELIGIBILITY: This is an open, juried competition for works in all media. All work must be original. Entries may not have been exhibited in a previous SPCARTS juried exhibit. Entries may not have been exhibited in a past/current juried exhibition within 50 miles. Works must be completed within the last 5 years. Accepted prints/photos/giclee prints must not be exhibited in area galleries concurrent to this exhibition. Open to artist 18 or older residing in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Clarion, Clearfield, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Somerset, Venango, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
MEDIA: Artists may submit up to three entries in any two or three dimensional media including photography. Entry must not exceed 60” in any direction. (Including framing) Total weight must not exceed 200 pounds. Entries must be ready for exhibition. Works previously accepted in past Annuals or History Through Art Exhibits are not eligible. Works must be completed within the last 5 years. Accepted prints/photos must not be exhibited in area galleries concurrent to this exhibition. If Photography, please indicate if printed on (rag) paper or canvas and if a Silver Gelatin Print, Digital Inkjet Print, Giclee Print (must not be a copy of an original work) or Continuous Tone Print (from a commercial provider, such as Kodak) IMAGE FILES must be labeled properly. SPCARTS will not be responsible for misidentifying images that are not labeled with “Artist last name-Entry # -Title.jpg.
ENTRY FEES: A $40.00 non-refundable entry fee (US funds only) must accompany entries. Please make checks payable to: SPCARTS. $3 of each entry fee is earmarked for SPCARTS Scholarship/Mini-Travel Grant fund.
INSURANCE AND LIABILITY: All works accepted for inclusion in the Greater Latrobe School District (GLSD) Exhibition and Gala will be insured by the GLSD. All works accepted and delivered early to Greater Latrobe High School (including any works purchased by the GLSD) will be insured, stored and delivered to SAMA on the delivery dates stipulated in this prospectus. All work will be insured by the Southern Alleghenies Museum while in the Museum. Neither the Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, Inc., the Greater Latrobe School District nor the Southern Alleghenies Museum is responsible for any damage to work during transit (except for works in transit from Greater Latrobe High School to SAMA delivered by representative of the GLSD.)
SALE OF WORK: For works accepted into the 29th Annual Exhibition; SAMA museum 20% commission. A 20% commission retained SPCARTS for a total of 40%.
ACCEPTED ENTRIES: All 2D entries must be suitably framed and wired for hanging. All accepted works must be ready to install. Inadequate framing/construction results in disqualification for exhibit and ineligibility for insurance coverage. A Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts or the Southern Alleghenies Museum representative will decide if work is suitable for exhibition. Juror Notification Cards/emails will be sent October 1, 2024. Notices for works accepted for inclusion in the GLSD Exhibition will be sent with Juror Notification Cards.
DELIVERY OF ARTWORK, SAMA: Work accepted for inclusion in the SPCARTS 29th Annual Exhibition must be delivered to the Southern Alleghenies Museum, Ligonier, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, Nov 6, 7, 8, 2024, 12:00 noon – 4:30 pm & Saturday, November 9, 10am – noon. Hanging and location of all accepted artwork at the SAMA Museum is solely at the discretion of the Museum Coordinator. All artwork must remain on display throughout the exhibition (February 2, 2025)
PICK UP ALL WORKS: Pick-up all works at the Southern Alleghenies Museum at Ligonier Valley Wednesday thru Friday February 5, 6, 7, 2025, 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025, 10am – noon.
CASH PRIZES: Awarded at the discretion of Juror.
GLSD: The Council anticipates participating in the Greater Latrobe School District’s Special Collection Gala in November, 2025.
